Let’s take a minute to talk about youthful skin.
It is impossible to peruse social media, watch your favorite TV show or flip through a magazine without being reminded that clear, even-toned and radiant skin is in. The assumption that so many of us resolve to is that achieving the celebrity look must come with a celebrity budget. That is where affordable and lasting treatments are revolutionizing the game. Enter our two trusty pals: Allergan’s Botox and Sciton’s Broad Band Light (BBL) Laser.
By now, most of us have been bombarded with information on Botox, facials, the myriad of skincare options, and some may feel like they have tried it all. Today I wanted to take a minute to cut through all that extra noise and talk about the ultimate double whammy: the Botox and BBL treatment one-two punch.

First Up, Let’s Talk About Our BFF… Botox!
To start, we have to note that Botox or botulinum toxin is an FDA-approved treatment used to temporarily reduce the appearance of moderate to severe frown lines, crow’s feet, lines between eyebrows, and forehead lines. Furthermore, Botox can be used in the treatment for various health issues, including eyelid spasms, excessive sweating, some bladder disorders, migraines, jaw tension, headaches resulting from the grinding of teeth, and the “cobblestone” chin look.
Science alert here…Botox is a neurotoxin. In aesthetics, we use this baby to disrupt the signaling nerve process that stimulates muscle contraction. Specifically, Botox prevents the release of acetylcholine, the chemical messenger released by nerves. This disruption is what creates a smoother, more youthful appearance of the skin.
There is no doubt that Botox remains the front runner in the race against wrinkles and fine lines. By blocking the nerve impulses to certain muscles, Botox relaxes the muscles that cause those pesky frown and forehead lines. The beauty of Botox is I can easily target these areas of concern for my clients, resulting in the quickest way to smooth out these areas revealing a more youthful and vibrant look.
Believe it or not, I have many clients who can feel the liquid magic working before they even leave my office, continue to see improvement within the two weeks after treatment, and enjoy these results for up to the next three months (remember! The duration of Botox’s effects varies by person. Some require Botox every 6-8 weeks, while others can go as long as three months or more without needing another treatment.)
Maintenance is key! I recommend that my clients maintain a regular Botox treatment schedule since growing research suggests that preventing the deepening of those wrinkles we already have potentially relaxes them, resulting in the need for less Botox as we go forward.
Botox is so amazing that one might ask…”who needs anything else in their bag of tricks”? Great question. So, let’s dig a little deeper beneath those visible 11 lines and crow’s feet to tackle hyperpigmentation, Rosacea, pore reduction, sun damage and skin laxity. Whew!

BBL is the most powerful Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) available and is the new industry standard in treating skin conditions. BBL is great for stimulating cell regeneration. Even from just one treatment, clients notice smoother, even toned skin.
In my practice, I use a BBL laser by Sciton – the industry leader in laser treatments. The light energy gently heats the upper levels of the skin to stimulate regeneration. This is a corrective process, working to restore the skin to a formerly vibrant, youthful state.
The photothermal energy delivered eliminates the visibility of fine vessels to get rid of redness, sunspots, brown spots and the look of aging. BBL is a correcting process that leaves pores less visible and an overall even skin pigment. Worried about Rosacea? BBL has got that covered too! Got sun-damage from normal or prolonged sun exposure? (we all do!), BBL to the rescue!
The Sciton BBL laser is way more than just a facial…think long term – true restoration. Typically, I recommend my clients have one to three laser treatments for best results. Treatments are spaced out in 4-6 weeks intervals to effectively target the areas of concern. Because this is a non-invasive procedure, many of my clients resume their normal activities immediately after…you can even head back to work if necessary! There is no need to worry about lengthy downtime or having to clear your schedule. Makeup the next day… yep! Can do!
